⏳Reagan’s Roundup #61

Start listening

Dear steward,

I pray you had a blessed Resurrection Sunday!

This week in Michigan, we welcomed Spring with a surprise late-April snowfall. It was… ridiculous and extremely demotivating.

(It also made me briefly question why we ever left California)

This isn’t supposed to happen in April!

But I’ll tell you what it made me thankful for: A good task management system.

Because having a system for managing my to-do lists is often the only thing that helps me get stuff done when I’m just not feeling it.

One of the most frequent questions I get is “what app should I use for managing my tasks?” So I put together a short article this week detailing my top picks for task management apps. Hope you find it helpful.

Plus, we’ve got a host of interesting links in this edition of the Roundup to help you on your journey to becoming a more productive Christian.

So let’s get into it!

✨ New on Redeeming Productivity

✍️ The Best Personal Task Management Apps (3 mins)

One of the most important tools in your productivity arsenal is a good task management system. Here are my picks for the best options.

Smartphones vs. Science: On Distraction and the Suppression of Genius (1 min)

“So Weiss tried something drastic. He ditched his smartphone during work hours, relying instead on an old fashioned feature phone without an internet connection. He decided email and Slack messages would have to wait until he returned from the lab. For music, he used an iPod.”

(Cal Newport / Study Hacks)

The Dangers of Digital Discourse (3 mins)

“It’s no secret that the digital world can be rough. The way we talk about each other and to each other online is not often a model of careful reason and good faith. But maybe a little literary theory can help.”

(Kevin DeYoung)

Our First Look at Bento, A New Task Managing App (3 mins)

“Bento is technically a task manager, but it’s not exactly a replacement for any of the apps listed above. Instead, Bento wants you to think about what you must do today, add those things to a list, and use the Bento app to focus on getting them done today.”

(Matt Birchler  / The Sweet Setup)

How to Raise a Reader (5 mins)

“A recent survey by the National Assessment of Educational Progress found that reading for pleasure among kids is at an all-time low. The decline is, no surprise here, likely attributed to the increased use of screens. It’s likely that these non-reading children will become non-reading adults. I don’t want my kids to be those kids who don’t read for pleasure and then go on to become adults who don’t read for pleasure either. I want them to be readers.”

(Brett & Kate McKay / The Art of Manliness)

The emerging theory of authentic leadership (4 mins)

“Instead of a manager with a “work persona”, people enjoy working with a manager that behaves like their true self — a manager who is self-aware, who has developed a supportive professional relationship with each individual in the team, and who has a good understanding of their thoughts, emotions, or belief systems.”

(Dr. Hannah England / Ness Labs)
