Now, for what’s happening on the web:

The Necessity of Effectively Communicating to Children

“There are two types of schedule, which I’ll call the manager’s schedule and the maker’s schedule. The manager’s schedule is for bosses. It’s embodied in the traditional appointment book, with each day cut into one hour intervals. You can block off several hours for a single task if you need to, but by default you change what you’re doing every hour…When you’re operating on the maker’s schedule, meetings are a disaster. A single meeting can blow a whole afternoon, by breaking it into two pieces each too small to do anything hard in.”

Maker’s Schedule, Manager’s Schedule

This is a classic from 2009, but I recently re-read it and was reminded of just how powerful an insight the maker/manager schedule is.

“Anyone who teaches young children has to stop and think about the words he uses when communicating to them. We should not assume that the thoughts in our minds are effectively communicated without distortion to the minds of the children. It is vitally important to ask children what they have understood us to say.”

How Can I Glorify God When I Have No Work?

“I’ve lost my job as a result of the coronavirus. I’m getting unemployment, so I am not worried about money. But I am running out of tasks to do around the house, and the hours of idleness are starting to wear me out. How can I glorify God in my work when I have no work to do?”

Ray Bradbury Got It Exactly Right

“It’s soon revealed that Brock is not imprisoned because of any harm he caused to other people. His crime was instead the wanton destruction of all the information, entertainment, and communication devices in his life: he fed his phone into his kitchen garbage disposal, shot his television with a gun, poured water into his office intercommunication system, stomped his wrist radio on the sidewalk, and spooned ice cream into his car’s FM transceiver.”

It’s Only Money

“Money matters, but it’s still only money. Just like we can make money into a god when we are profligate, we can make money into a god when we are frugal. Just like we can care too little about money and spend it too freely, we can care too much about money and hold it too tightly. As usual, there is peril on both sides.”

Using Roam Research as a Customer Relationship Manager

I recently talked about creating a personal CRM. I also mentioned the app Roam Research in my podcast episode on knowledge management. This article from Josh Ginter shows how you can create your own CRM using Roam.
