Dear steward,
There are countless ways to improve your time management skills. And that’s a lot of what we talk about here: For example, you can learn to prioritize your to-dos, prepare your day the night before, or track your time.
Tools and techniques have their place. The danger for Christians, however, is that we can be tempted to focus so much on tactics that we lose sight of the bigger picture. So, before we speed on to methods, we’ve got to first make sure we’ve got the right mindset about time management.
In Colossians 3:2, the apostle urges us to “Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.” This is a call to be eternally minded.
What’s this have to do with time management?
Literally everything.
I talk more about how to plan in light of eternity in this week’s essay.

Reading a book is a big investment, so you want to make sure you choose carefully. That’s why I use book summaries to preview nonfiction books before I commit to reading them.
But there are so many book summary apps out there these days. So, let me tell you real quick why I think Shortform is the best of them.
Shortform provides guides and summaries of the best nonfiction books. Whether it’s a personal development book like Atomic Habits by James Clear or Christian books like The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry by John Mark Comer, Shortform has you covered.
But Shortform takes it deeper than other book summary apps.
They provide in-depth chapter breakdowns, comparing the book’s arguments to what other authors say on the same topic. The analysis is top-notch and actually makes you think. No joke, I’ve had a couple of times where I read the summaries for a book I’d already read, and I thought the Shortform summary was actually better than the book itself!
So, if you want to save time and get the best book summary app out there, check out Shortform.

Weekly Word
“Calling ten of his servants, he gave them ten minas, and said to them, ‘Engage in business until I come.’”
– Luke 19:13
The King is returning, and He expects to find His servants busy with His work. Let’s live each day with the urgency and purpose that marks someone who is prepared to give an account.
Worth Your Time
- Will Believers Work in the New Earth? (4 mins) Hugh Whelchel writes about one of my favorite topics: Life on the new earth. It’s just so exciting to think what life will look like in eternity—and, specifically, what our work will be like. Fulfilling work without the thistles and thorns of frustration? Yes, please.
- So You Want to Be a Writer? (5 mins) Thomas Kidd shares advice for those who want to pursue a writing ministry or career. Some tips are geared specifically toward academics, but any writer or aspiring writer can take something away from this post.
- Whatting: A Productivity App Designed for iPad – Many productivity apps for iOS will work on iPad, but they don’t fully leverage the iPad’s unique features—specifically the pencil. Whatting has habit trackers, daily scheduling, pomodoro timers, and all that productivity goodness. But it also lets you write on it with the Apple Pencil. It’s just very unique merging of a paper planner with digital tools. I haven’t seen anything else quite like it.
Words of Wisdom
“Life on earth matters not because it’s the only life we have, but precisely because it isn’t—it’s the beginning of a life that will continue without end.”
– Randy Alcorn
