How to Make Time for Everything

Start listening

This past Tuesday, I hosted a live workshop on how to create a weekly schedule for yourself. You can watch the recording here.

I’ve found that just as a good financial steward lives according to a budget, I tend to spend my time more wisely when I have a plan for stewarding my weeks. If we want to be good time stewards, we need to be intentional.

Here’s a photo of my weekly schedule for April–June of this year.

Despite appearances, this is not a drawing from one of my children.

I remake the schedule every quarter to account for any changes in priority or obligations that have occurred in the meantime.

The goal of this kind of schedule is not to have all my appointments and tasks on there, it’s to map out a general plan for the average week:

  • Themes for each day
  • Time for habits (personal devotions, exercise, reading, etc.)
  • Time for goals
  • Time for the to-do list
  • Time for rest and recreation

I’m a big believer that not all time is created equal. So I plan for different types of activities at different times in the day and week. That’s where the color coding comes in.
